I was recently asked to describe myself on paper and I quickly wrote that I AM AN ATHLETE!!!
Although I was never overly involved in organized sports.... a swimmer in the summer, 🏊♀️a cheerleader in high-school📣, and some gymnastics 🤸♀️in college,
Physical Education came naturally to me and I earned my BS in Physical Education and Athletic Training from West Virginia University.
Physical Education employs a wide range of disciplines including health sciences🩺, kinesiology, anatomy, assessment skills, coaching, recreation🛶, sports, special needs, communication🤼♂️, etc., and the ability to break down each skill into a teachable segment. Of course, this principle is applicable to all types of skills; physical, comprehensive, mechanical, etc.
Physical Education introduced me to multiple sports and recreational activities in school for the purpose of learning the rules and how to analyze fine and gross motor patterns in order to teach skills at all levels, including special needs as well as the elderly.
🏃♀️Running came to me in my 20's. It didn't take much planning and good shoes made up the basic equipment. I began swimming as a child. I took to water like a mermaid. 🧜♀️
In the past few years, I have run in some Ragnar Trail 🏞 and Road ⚠️🚸Relays. It is a grand adventure meeting new people as well as visiting new areas. People of all ages participate and share their enthusiasm and comradery.
My best friend, Oliver, taught me to play canine 🐶 soccer and I am pleased to announce that my soccer skills ⚽️ have improved immensely while training Ollie for the CANINE GOALIE PLAYOFFS!
Coach McGrath would be pleased and Dr. Ziatz would be so proud.
Athletes are not only on the playing fields, but are also active in the industrial 🏤and domestic 🏡environments.
I encourage you to support your inner athlete and maintain your best function to support yourself cognitively, emotionally and physically!
Have fun out there!
